How to Make a Slushie

The slushie has become my absolute favorite refreshing drink when it comes to beating the scorching heat.

But you know what’s even more impressive? I don’t go to the nearest convenience store just to buy one for myself. Nope, not at all 🙅‍♂️

I actually love making it at home with my favorite ingredients, and let me tell you, it’s so easy.

And if you’re worried about the cost or hassle of a slush machine, then don’t be. I used to think the same until I found some quick ways to make slushies without even using a machine.

Today I will show you how to make a slushie at home in FOUR different ways. And don’t worry about the ingredients, you probably already have them at home.

How to Make Slushies With a Blender

I gotta say, making slushies couldn’t be easier than with a blender. And the best part? Pretty much everyone already has one in their kitchen.

For the slushy recipe below, I’ll be using my favorite Ninja Blender, but any blender should work just fine.

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 cups of ice cubes
  • Any flavored drink mix, soda, or juice (I prefer Kool-Aid)
  • 1 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups of cold water

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Directions:

Step 1: Let’s start by placing the ice, one pack of Kool-Aid, sugar, and water into the blender.

Step 2: Blend on low speed and gradually increase it until the mixture becomes smooth and slushy.

Step 3: Taste the slushie and adjust the sugar, water, or ice to get the desired sweetness and consistency.

How to Make a Slushie in the Freezer

If you’re looking for a way to make a slushie without a blender, using your freezer is a great alternative.

No need to worry if you don’t have a blender on hand. You can actually get the same classic slushie texture by using your regular freezer.

Don’t believe me? Well, why not give this recipe a shot? Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups of cold water
  • Any flavored drink mix, soda, or juice

Preparation time: 1-2 hours

Directions:

Step 1: Mix 1 cup of sugar and 2 cups of cold water in a large bowl until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step 2: Add your desired drink mix or soda to the mixture. Pour it into a shallow baking dish, and put it in the freezer for 1-2 hours.

Step 3: Every 30 minutes or so, take the mixture out of the freezer and stir it with a fork to break up any ice crystals.

Step 4: Once your slushie has reached the desired consistency, pour it into glasses and serve immediately.

How to Make Instant Slushie Using a Slushy Cup

If you’re not already familiar with it, this method can be described as quite magical. Basically, all you need is a special slushy cup.

There are many types of slushie cups out there, but I like the Zoku’s convenience.

The Zuko Slush Cup is great fun and lets you make slushies instantly. It’s compact, very easy to use, doesn’t need to be plugged in, and can make all kinds of frozen drinks.

Even your kids can join in and make their own slashes anytime, anywhere. How cool is that? 😄

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 2-3 drops of vanilla extract
  • 2 scoops of cocoa powder (for a chocolate twist)
  • Milk

Preparation time: 7 minutes

Directions:

Step 1: Start by placing the inner core in the freezer for 8 hours, or until it’s completely frozen. Once frozen, remove it from the freezer and put it in the outer sleeve.

Freeze the inner core of Zoku

Step 2: Next, add the sugar, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder to the cup. Fill the remaining space in the cup with milk.

Add ingredients and Stir the mixture

Step 3: Now, using the spoon provided, gently scrape the frost from the sides into the liquid. Stir the mixture every few minutes until it reaches a thick slush-like consistency.

Let me recommend the Bravo Italia 1 Bowl Slushie Machine. It’s perfect because it can hold 3.2 gallons of frozen drinks and has a self-freezing design. It’s super easy to use and also has a cool feature that allows you to switch between day/night modes.

With this machine in your home, you can actually bring all the fun and excitement of your favorite slushy shop to your doorstep.

Don’t worry if this machine doesn’t fit your budget or needs. I’ve reviewed a ton of different home slush machines on this website, so you’re sure to find the best.
